Chadwick Homestead Condition Assessment

Lopez Island, WA

The San Juan County Conservation Land Bank acquired the 1876 Chadwick Homestead in 2021 to protect it and the surrounding Watmough Bay from future development. Pacific Preservation visited Lopez Island in the spring of 2025 to assess four contributing buildings on the historic homestead to assist the Land Bank in stabilization and preservation efforts. We lead the development of a report that summarized the historic significance and contributing features of each building, identified areas of deficiencies with recommendations, and established a phased preservation plan with prioritized treatments and maintenance guidelines. The report was developed in partnership with HistoriCorps, who provided a cost estimate and project proposal for all priority 1 scope.

This project exemplifies Pacific Preservation’s dedication to our natural and cultural resources, preserving the expansive agricultural and ecological beauty of Lopez Island.
